Official Name : The Islamic Republic of Iran
National Emblem and Flag :
It is graphic presentation of the characters constitutive of the motto which symbolizes the Islamic unity ,i.e. La Ilaha Illallah .
There horizontal stripes of green ,white and red in the other from top to the bottom, on the borders of the green and
red stripes the motto Allah - u - Akbar repeated 22 times in all, emblem is seen in red.
Language
The language spoken in Iran is Persian (wrongly known as Farsi). Also spoken in Afghanistan, Tadjikistan and certain parts
of China and Uzbekistan, Persian belongs to the Indo-Iranian family of languages. An old form of this
language prevailed
in the Persian Empire as early as the 6th century BC, when the language was written in cuneiform. Later, in the 2nd century
BC the Persians created a new alphabet known as Pahlavi which remained in use until the Arab invasion of Persia in the 7th
century. Since then, Persian has been written in the Arabic script. However, although Persian and Arabic alphabet may be
similar to some extent today ,the languages themselves are absolutely different from each other.
There are 32 letters in the
Persian (Farsi) alphabet .
